This section is optional. Students may wish to supply additional supporting documentation for the portfolio.
In this section, students should make note of the letters of reference they have received from employers, instructors, or others that they are linking to the ePortfolio
In this section, students should post their projected HIM completion date, their eligibility to sit for the RHIT exam, or notice of their successful attainment of their RHIT credential. Students should also list all current certifications held and if you are providing digital copies linked to your portfolio then mention this here.
Students can post examples of projects they have completed that show their skills. Students should post project examples as well as any examples of written work they wish to showcase. In this section you will talk about the different samples you are linking to the ePortfolio and explain what skill they represent
This section gives the students a place to identify milestones or give specific examples of accomplishments they wish to highlight.
This section provides the student an area to post their current resume. In addition, they can highlight relevant work experience and volunteer activities pertinent to the field. This section also provides the student an area to list their skills and abilities. What specific skill sets do you have now that will allow you to contribute to an employer? This should include a personal inventory of the areas you feel comfortable with. This is not an area to simply list classes you have taken, but to ferret out specific skill sets.
This section identifies the one-year, three-year, and five-year employment goals of the student. In this section the student discusses career paths they would like to follow. It is more than merely targeting a future employer, but what field of HIM do they wish to explore.
This section serves as a title page, welcoming the reviewer and introducing the student. Who are you and why do you want to work in HIM?
In this section, the student establishes the look and feel of the portfolio. In addition to the paragraph your write, make sure you portfolio itself looks professional and represents you. Some other things to make note of:
- Use an appropriate journal theme
- Put in a journal title and subtitle that represents you (it is fine to put in a subtitle of a inspirational quote or something – adds character to your portfolio)
- Don’t use mood themes
If you are adding a userpic (user picture) make sure it is of you, or some other item that is appropriate.
To participate in the ePortfolio project you will need to create a “blog.” Blog is short for “web-log.” Maybe you already have one, but for the purposes of this class, I would like everyone to create a new blog through livejournal.com
If you look near the top of this window you will see a link to "Create a LiveJournal Account." This will open a new screen with very simple step-by-step instructions. This blog will be used as your PROFESSIONAL ELECTRONIC PORTFOLIO. As such, is it imperative that the name look professional. I would ask that you use your last name followed by the word "ePortfolio" as the name of this blog (i.e; goreeportfolio . If by some odd chance this user name is already taken, then you may try using your first and last name, or first initial and last name, Make a note of this username as you will use it in every class for the rest of your time in the TCC HIM program.
Your next screen is for you to enter more information to set-up your account. Please select either the Basic account, free account
Next you will have the option of entering in personal information. This is entirely optional and you do NOT have to fill any of it out. Please be aware that any information you enter here may be seen by other students in the class.
After you have set up your account feel free to play around and customize it, add your picture and pick a background that you like. But remember, this is not a regular blog. you will be using this as your PROFESSIONAL ELECTRONCI PORTFOLIO. You want to set a good impression.
You will want to go into Friends, and then "Manage Friends" and add me to your friends list. Just type in tcchim - I will be notified that you have added me, and then I can add you to my friends list.
Don't post any new entries yet, you will be given specific instructions on what I am looking for for this ePortfolio.
Now, if you want to also have a regular blog site that you can make postings to and share opinions on then please feel free to open a second site. There is no limit to how many sites you can have.
